IAQS opens "Sustainability Through Standards: Certifications Shaping a Greener Future" Conference
Marianne Kemmer, Executive director of the Indoor Air Quality Society (IAQS) delivered the opening speech at the event “Sustainability Through Standards: Certifications Shaping a Greener Future”, organised as part of the APFM (Portuguese Association of Facility Management) 20 th anniversary.
The event brought together experts and stakeholders from across the sustainability and certification landscape to discuss the growing role of standards, certifications and governance frameworks in supporting the transition towards a more sustainable and resilient future.
In its opening contribution, IAQS highlighted the increasing importance of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) within sustainability and ESG strategies, underlining how health-focused standards and measurable environmental performance indicators are becoming central elements of sustainable built environments.
The discussions throughout the session explored how certifications can move beyond regulatory compliance and become strategic tools for transparency, accountability and long-term environmental impact. Particular attention was given to the evolving European and international sustainability framework landscape, including the growing integration of climate resilience, biodiversity and environmental governance into certification systems.
IAQS’ participation reflected its continued commitment to promoting healthier indoor environments and strengthening the connection between IAQ, sustainability policies and ESG reporting practices.
